This week the Sevilleta summer seminar speaker is Dr. Sara Baer of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Dr. Baer's research interests are in ecosystem, soil, and restoration ecology and include: changes in carbon and nitrogen cycling during restoration; diversity-productivity relationships; the role of soil heterogeneity and resource availability in restoring plant diversity; consequences of intra- and interspecific variation for community assembly and ecosystem processes; application of ecological theory to restored systems. More information on Dr. Baer can be found at: http://www.plantbiology.siu.edu/Faculty/Baer/index.html
Summer seminar talks are at the UNM Sevilleta Field Station-SERF Conference Room.
Time: 6 p.m.
Date: Thursday, July 12, 2012
Talks are followed by a potluck - so bring something to share if you'd like to stay and mingle with Dr. Baer and students.
Driving Directions to the Station: The UNM Sevilleta Field Station is located - on South I-25, Exit 169 (50 min. south of ABQ, 20 min. north of Socorro) After you exit the interstate, you will turn WEST at the stop sign. Follow the paved road all the way up and you'll see a small brown sign on the right - that directs you to the UNM Sevilleta Field Station. (As you pass from a paved to gravel road, the Fish & Wildlife Visitor Center should be on your Left - if it is not - you are on the wrong road). SERF Conference Room is located in the Sevilleta Education and Research Facility. This building is the first Large building you will see after you pass from the paved to gravel road.
Hope to see you there!
