NA_Boundary

Data format: Shapefile

File or table name: NA_Boundary

Coordinate system: Geographic

Theme keywords: North America, Boundary, Land, Continent, Polygon

Abstract: NA_Boundary represents the continent of North America aquired from Natural Earth (http://www.naturalearthdata.com) Land polygons derived from 10m coastline. Continental polygons broken into smaller, contiguous pieces to avoid having too many points in any one polygon, facilitating faster data processing in certain software applications.

FGDC and ESRI Metadata:

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

Description:
Abstract:
NA_Boundary represents the continent of North America aquired from Natural Earth (http://www.naturalearthdata.com)

Land polygons derived from 10m coastline. Continental polygons broken into smaller, contiguous pieces to avoid having too many points in any one polygon, facilitating faster data processing in certain software applications.

Purpose:
Natural Earth was built through a collaboration of many volunteers and is supported by NACIS (North American Cartographic Information Society), and is free for use in any type of project. We provide these boundary files here at SevLTER as a convenience to our GIS user community.

Supplemental information:
Natural Earth solves a problem: finding suitable data for making small-scale maps. In a time when the web is awash in geospatial data, cartographers are forced to waste time sifting through confusing tangles of poorly attributed data to make clean, legible maps. Because your time is valuable, Natural Earth data comes ready-to-use.
