Using the STATSGO Soils Database
In this assignment, tables containing information about soil components and layers downloaded from the STATSGO database were joined and related to each other to facilitate data extraction. The layer of soil polygons for the whole state of New Mexico was also clipped to include only the Pecos Watershed area. Data from RGIS detailing landuse for the area around the Pecos Watershed was also merged with Pecos watershed soil data so that a single attribute table contained both types of information. The following two figures illustrate the kinds of information available from STATSGO and the RGIS landuse database.
